You can download the original Mars Pathfinder 1.0 for DOS (145 KB) and the original Mars Pathfinder 2.0 for Windows (1.45 MB). The DOS version is an executable. The Windows version is a ZIP file with a self-extracting executable that sets up the app.
These are exactly the same as the November 2000 presentation (DOS) and the 2.0 Version (Windows), off my Dell PC from that exact time. I never changed the DOS after the November 2000 seminar, and the Windows version has remained unchanged since its inception in January 2001.
I tried both a few years ago, and they still work. I had to run the Windows-compatible version as an administrator, but everything still works just as it did 25 years ago.
Not sure if they still work, but this is a forensic investigation: these are the originals. Down the road, I will try to create an app that runs on the site with some of the AI tools.
You have to “accept a suspicious file” for the DOS version, but the Windows zip file downloads fine. Not sure how to make them work from there. Likely need an older version of Windows. Windows 10 will work, I think.
